What are cookies?

A ‘cookie’ is a small text file installed by websites on your computer when you access a particular site or use certain services offered by that site. The purpose is to store and transport information. Cookies are sent from a web server (which is the computer on which the site you are visiting is running) to your browser (e.g. Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, etc.) and stored on your device. For more information and to learn more about cookies in general, please visit www.allaboutcookies.org.

What they are used for:

In general, cookies can be used for various reasons, for example to monitor visitors‘ use of the site, to improve page navigation, to allow you to set personal preferences on the sites you are visiting, to protect your security, to present advertisements based on visitors’ interests.

Types of cookies and purposes:

In general, and according to common terminology, cookies can have different characteristics that allow them to be classified according to:

  • the length of time they remain on the User's device: in this case we speak of session/temporary cookies or persistent cookies;

  • their origin: in this case we talk about first-party cookies (sent to the browser directly from the site you are visiting) or third-party cookies (sent to the browser from other sites and not from the site you are visiting)

  • by purpose: in this case, also in line with the relevant regulations of the Italian Data Protection Authority, we talk about technical cookies or analytical identification and profiling cookies.

Following this classification, the same cookie may also have all these characteristics together, so, for example, it may be a persistent cookie, coming from a third party and with profiling purposes.

Duration of persistence:

  • Session/temporary cookies: these are not stored persistently but only limited to the duration of the browsing session. This means that they are automatically deleted from the User's device once he/she has left the website and closed the browsing browser.

  • Persistent cookies: these are stored on the user's device until they are deleted by the user or until their expiry date is reached if pre-set. They are therefore not automatically deleted from the User's device when they leave the website.

Origin:

First-party cookies: these are the cookies issued by the website visited at the time; the website is the one corresponding to the address typed in by the User (website displayed in the URL window). Third-party cookies: these are cookies issued by a website other than the one visited by the user.

Purpose:

Technical cookies: these cookies are essential to navigate the site and use certain specific functionalities. They can be divided into:

  • Navigation/communication/performance cookies: they ensure the normal navigation and use of the website (allowing, for example, to make a purchase or authenticate to access restricted areas); if these cookies are blocked, the site may no longer function properly.

  • 'Strictly necessary’ cookies (functionality/preferences/localisation/session status): these allow the storage of information that modifies the behaviour or appearance of the site (preferred language, text and font size, geographical area in which you are located). If they are blocked, the browsing experience will be less functional but not compromised. These cookies allow the site to remember the choices you make (such as language preference, what content you are interested in, etc.) and to provide you with the personalised features you select in order to improve your browsing experience. In some cases these cookies may also be used to offer online services (e.g. offering a live chat service) or to prevent the User from being offered services that he/she has refused in the past

Analytical cookies: are used to enable web services to collect information about how users access the site, such as the number of visitors to the site, how long they stay and which parts of the site they visit. These cookies may be first or third party.

Third-party statistical/analytics cookies without identification power (with IP masking and no cross-referencing with other data held by the third party): these cookies can be assimilated, in line with current legislation, to technical cookies insofar as they meet the following conditions adoption of measures that reduce the identifying power of the cookies by masking portions of the IP; the third party refers to the commitment to use these cookies exclusively for the provision of the service, and to store them separately and not to ‘enrich’ or ‘cross-reference’ them with other information held by the third party.

Preference, Analytical and Statistical Cookies

The site uses analytical/statistical cookies to collect and process statistical analysis on how users navigate the site via computer or mobile applications, the number of visits and pages visited or the number of clicks made on a page while browsing a site. The information generated relating to our website is used by our company to make reports on the use of the site to improve usability, functionality, interface, communication. Our website processes the results of these analyses anonymously and exclusively for statistical purposes.

For this purpose we use Google technologies; in particular Analytics and Tag Manager

Further analyses are carried out via the Wix.com platform.

Marketing and Profiling Cookies

Marketing cookies are generally used to track visitors to websites. The purpose is to present advertisements that are relevant and engaging to the individual user and therefore of greater value to third-party publishers and advertisers. They are designed to understand the preferences of individual users so that targeted content of interest to them is presented to them while they are browsing (e.g. cookies may be used to store information such as preferred page configuration and playback preferences, explicit choices regarding automatic playback, random content playback and player size). This activity is facilitated by tracking usage data and using tracking tools to collect information that is then transferred to partners that handle remarketing and behavioral targeting activities.

Managing Cookies

When the user visits the website, a popup is shown with an explanation of the cookies applied.

The banner present at the opening of the site's home page, containing the brief information on the use of cookies, allows the user the possibility to ‘accept’ or ‘refuse’ the application of unnecessary cookies, or modify them using the link (or graphic sign) present at the bottom of each page of the site.

In addition to the banner, it is possible to act directly from the browser setting.

Most Internet browsers are initially set to accept cookies automatically. You can change these settings to block cookies or to be warned each time cookies are sent to your browsing device. In addition, at the end of each browsing session you can delete the cookies collected from your device. There are several ways to manage cookies. Please refer to the specific instructions of the browser you are using. In the event that different devices are used to view and access the site (e.g. computer, smartphone, tablet, etc.), it is your responsibility to ensure that each browser on each device is adjusted to reflect your cookie preferences.
